Nassriya is the most populous urban district of Aswan (50,000), as the labours immigrated and settled in the area during and after the construction of the High Dam.
Nassriya lacked access to basic infrastructure services such as sewage, water supply, solid waste disposal and urban services.
GTZ group proposed a program for upgrading the area with the participation of its community and organizations.
In 1988, designed a new service center to server the community needs. The design based on the traditional way of building, using the natural stones and roofing by domes and vaults.
To overcome any further densification in the area, the government chose a new area East of Nassriya to be extension to old Nassriya. That new area was divided to 275 plots and each plot varied from 150 to 180 m2.
An improved traditional new house was designed and built in the new extension to be a pilot model house for the inhabitants.

The 150 m2 plot was designed with the participation of the inhabitants and local governmental decision makers. The opinions, needs and requirements of the inhabitants were identified trough several gatherings and a questionnaire.
An exhibition presenting the different designs was prepared and a general meeting was held to choose the final design.
